Shillong, June 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain in Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from June 27 to July 2.
The IMD has also issued orange and yellow alerts for several parts of the country as monsoon has arrived in almost entire of India.
According to reports, Sikkim is also expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 27 to July 2.
The IMD said, “Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand during next five days”.
On Tuesday, flood-ravaged Assam experienced some relief following a decrease in rainfall. So far, flood in Asaam has claimed 5 lives and affected over 1.5 lakh people. Meanwhile, Barpeta continues to bear the brunt of the devastation.
A Scientist at IMD has also stated that the monsoon has advanced in the past 4-5 days.
Heavy rain is also expected in Uttrakhand and a Yellow alert has been issued in view of moderate to heavy rains in Dehradun in the coming days.
Apart from Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh will also witness heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning from June 30 and July 1.
