Guwahati, Oct 12: In a tragic incident, a mother-daughter duo, hailing from eastern Assam Tinsukia distict were killed in the derailment of the Guwahati-bound Northeast Express train.
Taking to X (former Twitter), Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his deepest condolences at the passing away of two passengers, Mrs Bhandari and Ms Bhandari from Tinsukia District, travelling on Train 12506 in the unfortunate derailment incident at Buxar last evening.
The mother and daughter from Assam who died in the Northeast Express train accident in Bihar have been identified as Usha Bhandari (33) and her daughter Aakriti (8).
They were the residents of Sadiya in Tinsukia district.
“Today at around 6 a.m. came to know about the sad news. My sister Usha Bhandari and her eight years daughter Aakriti Bhandari were killed in the train derailment. Our brother-in law Deepak Bhandari is also travelling with them. He is under treatment,” said sister of the deceased.
A special train carrying over 1000 passengers left Danapur railway station at 5 a.m. and is expected to reach Kamakhya railway station by 11 p.m. As many as 540 passengers are from Assam.
Meanwhile, the stranded passengers of the derailed Northeast Express train are being brought to Guwahati in Assam on a special relief train.
“Stranded passengers of Train 12506 (Northeast Express) are now en-route to Kamakhya junction from Raghunathpur station, via special relief train,” the Assam CMO stated.
The train bringing the stranded passengers to Guwahati in Assam is expected to reach the Kamakhya station in the city by 11 pm on Thursday (October 12).
