NPP happy to welcome Congress MLAs to its fold: Rakkam

Must read

Shillong, Aug 13: NPP leader and cabinet minister Rakkam A. Sangma on Tuesday said the party is ready to welcome the three Congress MLAs to its fold.

“NPP will definitely welcome anybody, be it political leaders or MLAs. It is a good move to welcome them if it (the news of the three Congress MLAs joining NPP) is true,” Rakkam told reporters.

He however said he has no idea whether the Congress legislators will really join the NPP or not.

“But sitting in the opposition will not serve the purpose. It is always good to work together as at the end of the day, we are serving the people – we have to build the roads, schools, hospitals. Sometimes in politics, if it is black, they have to make it white. For the sake of being in opposition, we have to protest and we have to oppose (but) not from the inside. If that news is true it is very good news,” the minister said.

Asked, Rakkam said, “In politics, any direction, any disciplinary action never happens, it is a democratic set up…”

Recent reports have alleged that three Congress MLAs – Gabriel Wahlang, Charles Marngar, and Celestine Lyngdoh, have reportedly decided to join the NPP ahead of the Gambegre bye-poll.
