Tura, Feb 7: Youth leader of the ruling NPP Aldo A Sangma has been selected by the ruling party to be the new nominated MDC in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
A notification on January 7th from Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik’s office announced the nomination of Aldo A Sangma for the single nominated MDC’s post in the 30 member GHADC.
In exercise of the powers conferred under Sub-rule (1) of rule 6 of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rule, 1951, as amended by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, and on the advice of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, the Governor is pleased to nominate Shri Aldo A Sangma, as member of the said Council with effect from the date of subscribing an oath or affirmation inn terms of rule 24 of the aforesaid Rules, stated the notification from the governor’s office.
Hailing from Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills, Aldo A Sangma is the current Vice Chairman of the State Level Public Grievances Committee.
He graduated from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong and did his masters in Political Science from IGNOU.
He is also the former President of the Garo Students Union, Khasi Hills zone from 2005 to 2007 and spearheaded the protests in Khasi Hills for the student body during the MBOSE agitation.
