Kohima, Feb 1: The Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) on Friday emphasized mutual respect between India and the Naga community, stating that if India acknowledges the history of the Nagas, the Nagas would reciprocate “ten times more.”
Speaking at the 46th Raising Day celebration of the NSCN-IM at Hebron, Vice Chairman Tongmeth Wangnao highlighted two significant milestones in India-Naga relations. “The first formal recognition of the uniqueness of Naga history came on July 11, 2002, during a meeting in Amsterdam,” he said. “This was followed by the signing of the Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015, in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi playing a pivotal role.”
Wangnao noted that the Framework Agreement signing ceremony was a landmark moment broadcast live for the world to witness, with NSCN-IM’s entire leadership in attendance.
Reflecting on over 27 years of peace talks, Wangnao criticized the Indian government’s “unethical tactics” aimed at undermining the NSCN-IM-led negotiations. “Despite this, we have held steadfast to the truth behind the Naga political movement,” he remarked.
Reaffirming the group’s spiritual foundation, Wangnao said, “While the fate of the Naga political dialogue is in God’s hands, we must continue to find strength under the banner of ‘Nagalim for Christ.'”
Political negotiations between the NSCN-IM and the Indian government have been ongoing since the 1997 ceasefire, culminating in the 2015 Framework Agreement. However, a final resolution remains elusive.
