Shillong, Sept 1: A person has been arrested while the other accused remains absconding in an alleged rape case that reportedly occurred in Malki locality of Shillong on Friday.

The victim filed a complaint at the Laitumkhrah Police Station on Friday night, stating that the heinous act occurred on Friday itself and named two accused.

On Saturday, the Laitumkhrah Police apprehended one of the accused, identified as 19-year-old Andy Malngiang. The second suspect, Kitbok Reuben Mawthoh, remains absconding.

Malngiang has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days under Sections 351(3) and 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) of 2023.
