Agartala, Mar 21: Leader of the Opposition and CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury lodged a complaint letter to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on alleged pre-poll violence on an octogenarian lady, mother of a CPIM leader at Mohanpur in West Tripura district at the hands of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters on Monday last.
A team of CPIM delegation under the leadership of Opposition Leader Jitendra Chowdhury visited the house of Milan Bala Deb at Jagatpur in West Tripura and interacted with their family members and assured them that they would get justice from the recent political violence.
Speaking to reporters, Milan Bala Deb, said, “my son Raman Deb, a local leader of the CPIM was recently threatened by the BJP supporters not to come out of his house. On the day of the incident, Raman had gone to a nearby shop where he was beaten and later, he was chased away by them up to our residence. When I tried to intervene, they assaulted me on my head with a stick which injured me,”. A police complaint was lodged by the family member of the victim immediately after the incident.
The FIR accused four persons- Ranjan Debnath, Ranjit Debnath, Parimal Debnath and Dhiman Debnath, whom he claimed to be “BJP workers”. The communist party claimed the police did not take any initiative to arrest the accused yet.
