Dibrugarh, Feb 15: With a mission to foster awareness and appreciation for Indian classical music and culture among the local populace of Dibrugarh, the founder of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) and recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award, Dr Kiran Seth has embarked on a tour of upper Assam to share his experiences and knowledge with students and educators from various institutions.
During his interaction with them, Dr. Kiran Seth emphasized the importance of Indian classical music and culture in shaping the ethos of the nation.
Reflecting on his recent solo cycling expedition spanning from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, which commenced on August 15, 2022, Dr. Seth shared insights into his journey aimed at promoting the benefits of cycling for physical and mental well-being, as well as advocating for environmental sustainability and embodying Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of simplicity and wisdom.
Having successfully completed his cycling odyssey on February 2023, Dr. Seth now seeks to extend his outreach to the northeastern states, including Assam.
His efforts have garnered support from regional leaders, including the Chief Minister and Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, during his recent visit to Itanagar.
Dr. Seth explained the significance of engaging the younger generation in societal transformation, urging them to reconnect with foundational values and actively contribute to positive change.
Through SPIC MACAY, he aims to instill a deeper understanding of Indian classical music, emphasizing its transformative potential in nurturing individuals who embody compassion and integrity.
The SPIC MACAY Cycle Yatra, which arrived at IIT Guwahati on January 2, 2024, has been instrumental in fostering dialogue and collaboration with educational institutions and community leaders across the region.
Dr. Rajee Konwarh, chairperson of SPIC MACAY Dibrugarh chapter, commended Dr. Seth’s dedication to his mission, highlighting his modest approach and commitment to promoting Indian classical music and culture.
During his visit to Dibrugarh, Dr. Seth engaged with students and faculty members at schools and colleges, fostering meaningful exchanges and inspiring the youth to embrace their cultural heritage. His itinerary includes engagements with various educational and cultural institutions in the coming days, including addresses at Shree Bharati Institute of Professional Education, Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh Sattriya Sanskritik Kendra, and J.N. Vidyalaya in Moran.
