Shillong, Jan 4: Congress working president and MDC from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Pynshngain N Syiem, on Monday said that the people have lost faith in both the BJP-led NDA government at the centre and the NPP-led MDA government in the state.

“The signs are very clear that the NDA government as well as the MDA government have failed in all fronts be it hike in the prices of essential commodities and petroleum products, increase in the taxes and failure to handle the COVID-19 pandemic – all these have made people to lose faith in the BJP, NPP and other political parties,” Syiem said.

He was addressing a meeting of the Sohra Block Congress Committee chaired by its newly appointed president and former MDC, Donevan Wanlang here.

Syiem also urged the party workers and supporters to work hard to ensure a Congress-led government is installed in Meghalaya in 2023.

He also highlighted the failures of the MDA government led by the NPP and backed by the BJP and other regional political parties.

“Their failure to provide good governance is one of the main reasons why people of the state now want the Congress to come back to power in 2023,” Syiem said.

He further stated that it was because of the then Congress regime at the Centre that effective laws are being implemented to safeguard the rights and interests of the tribal indigenous people.

“Had the BJP been given a chance to rule for a longer period of time, all these would have been taken away from the tribal people,” he added.
