Tura, Oct 18: The gruesome murder of 55-year-old woman from Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills, about 120 km from here is attributed to ‘personal enmity’ if local sources are to be believed.

Sources say that at least 5 armed miscreants had forcefully entered the house of Jenolish Marak and threatened her daughter and son-in-law not to intervene and then dragged Marak to the courtyard of the house and killed her.

The incident took place in the village of Karshengdhap under Tikrikilla Police Station around 11:30 pm on Oct 16.

While two of the gang members stood by the door to ensure there was no interference from the family, the rest dragged Marak outside and struck her with a weapon so hard that her head was severed from the body. She died instantly.

Police sources say that the miscreants used Garo language to warn the family members.

Given the gruesome nature of the crime as well as the registration of an FIR, a special investigation team (SIT) has been set up by West Garo Hills Police for the murder led by the SDPO of Raksamgre.

The SIT today, Oct 18 has been questioning villagers as well as others to determine the reason for the murder though nothing concrete has emerged so far.

Interestingly, while the family’s FIR (written by the brother of the victim) had mentioned a gun shot by the murderers, sources said there appeared no bullet injuries on the body of the victim.

“We are putting in our efforts into cracking the case and will leave no stone unturned in our efforts. We are hopeful of a breakthrough into the murder of the woman. More details, if available during the investigation would be provided once we complete the investigation,” said police chief of West Garo Hills Dr. Raghavendra Kumar.
