Guwahati, July 3: Inter-state border tension has once again erupted at the inter-state border of Mizoram’s Kolashib and Assam’s hailakandi district in southern Assam. The present stand-off occurred after Assam Police tried to clear what it claims encroachment inside forest land within its territory in Cholaikhal area of Hailakandi bordering Kolashib in Mizoram.
Assam police moved into the area and dismantled makeshift huts, whereas Mizoram claims these structures are part of Mizoram Police camp established to guard the borders and located well inside their territory.
With Mizoram accusing Assam of encroachment, videos being circulated on social media platforms and run news by channels show the dispute escalating. Armed police personnel of both the states are not ready to back off and they were seen ‘pushing’ at each other in the border area.
Meanwhile, Mizoram has rushed additional forces to the interstate border.
There is an ongoing border dispute between the two northeastern states that always see occasional flare up.
