Tura, Apr 24: A pickup vehicle transporting passengers overturned in the Kanhai area of Rongara in South Garo Hills this afternoon. The incident involved a Bolero Pick-Up with Assam registration, driven by Jittu Ch Sangma.
The accident took place at 2:30 pm at Chengkni Champa (SH), with 24 passengers aged between 16 to 24 years on board. No serious injuries were reported, and all passengers have been transported to a nearby health center for first aid.
Intial ivestigations suggest that due to overspeeding the driver could not control the vehicle led to the mishap.
Authorities have initiated necessary procedures, and further details regarding the incident are awaited.
Such pickup trucks are commonly used by villagers for transportation, as many areas require 4×4 vehicles to transport materials like food grains and vegetables, as well as ferrying humans. Last year, a polling officer tragically succumbed to injuries sustained while traveling in a similar pickup truck.
