Pnar and Karbi Communities resolve to restore peace

Shillong, May 17: A year long standoff and an economic blockade was resolved in a meeting convened at the BOP Khanduli, between the Pnar Community of Khanduli Village of West Jaiñtia Hills and the Karbi Community under the Suching Amring Border Development Committee (SABDC) on Thursday.

The meeting was held in the presence of two observers A Laskar the Border Magistrate from West Karbi Anglong and B. Langbang the Border Magistrate from West Jaiñtia Hills.

The meeting was held to restore and maintain peace amongst the Pnar and the Karbi Community especially after misunderstandings crept up following the establishment of the Check Gate at Khanduli by the KAAC and subsequent economic boycott called by the Pnar Community of Khanduli Village.

During the meeting it was decided that the Check Gate of KAAC should be set up at a place which will be recognised by the Regional Committees of the two states.

It was further decided to stop all encroachments made by either state in the Khanduli Region. The Pnars having fields in the Karbi Anglong Areas should produce valid documents of their fields and the documents should be renewed annually and that excessive Collection of wild vegetables and using illegal means of fishing (bombing and poisoning) should be stopped and violators would be fined with Rs. 50,000 by the respective village.

That development programmes of any sort brought by either state govts should not be obstructed and that the Pnars can resume farming in their fields located at Karbi Anglong region from the 21st of this month.
