Williamnagar, Oct 21: In order to commemorate and honour the sacrifice of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, Police Commemoration Day was observed at the Williamnagar Police Reserve on Monday.
This day traces its origins back to 1959, when a CRPF patrol party was ambushed by Chinese forces in Ladakh, resulting in the deaths of 10 Indian policemen. The tragic incident is remembered not only to honour these brave men but also to pay tribute to all police personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the country.
On this occasion, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Anthony Ch. Momin, spoke about the significance of Police Commemoration Day and recounted the sacrifices of Indian police personnel who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Subir Sangma, Deputy Superintendent of Police Howard K. Marak, the Assistant Commandant of the 5th MLP Battalion and his officers, the Assistant Commandant of Civil Defence Home Guard and his officers, officers of the District Executive Force, Fire & Emergency Service staff, MPRO staff, and officers and staff of the District Special Branch. A family member of one of the martyrs was also present at the commemoration.
To honour the martyrs, a wreath-laying ceremony was held, followed by a gun salute led by Shok Parade Commander Richmond R. Marak.
This event highlighted the critical role played by police forces in maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and combating internal security challenges such as terrorism, insurgency, and crime.
