Shillong, Aug 16: During the law and order situation in Shillong on Sunday, a video emerged of masked miscreants in Shillong, taking a police vehicle for a ride armed with weapons and later torched the car.

The weapons snatched by the masked miscreants is still missing, however, the police department has suspended the personnel for deserting their weapons.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has condemned the incident and said that for a police, the arms and the weapons they carry are as good as part of their body  and that they should never ever let go of their weapon.

“What happened yesterday was unacceptable whether it was from the police personnel or whether it was from the individual who had taken them. We are very firm on this and will take firm action on this,” the Chief Minister added.

He has also asked all those people involved in snatching the arms to immediately return the weapons.

Asked how many were suspended, Sangma said that he did not have the exact number but was affirmative that there were four personnel, one ran away with his weapon while the other three deserted their weapon at the spot.

Concerning the two bombs hurled at his private residence, Sangma said that these kinds of activities are meaningless.

“My appeal to all citizens of the state and especially those getting involved, this is not the way forward. Appeal to everyone they must be peaceful and resolve issues in a proper manner and violence is not the way forward. We condemn it and will find who is responsible for it,” stated Sangma.

Amid the law and order situation in Shillong city, another political development has erupted in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government. While the Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Sunday evening wrote to Meghalaya CM to relieve him as Home Minister, Conrad K Sangma so far is yet to look into it.
