Shillong, Jan 10: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Thursday asserted the need for political parties to present their respective roadmaps on what they envisioned to do for the state instead of criticising the government.
His statement came as a reaction to a recent statement made by the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) in regards to the textbooks issue.
Sangma said he doesn’t know what the VPP are trying to say since their statement was not clear.
“The point is he (VPP leader) may be speaking on behalf of some businessman I don’t know because I did not get the point but in regards to textbooks, we have shifted from MBoSE to NCERT textbooks. They should not be against this because I don’t get any opposition from any individual, academician or faculty members or the students…,” he added.
Asked, the education minister admitted that the VPP is raising this issue due to the upcoming elections.
“As a political leader and individual, I feel instead of criticizing somebody, they (VPP) should present their roadmap, their ideas for the state and the people especially during elections because blaming somebody will not get attracted to vote for them or anybody. I think it is important that any political party must present a roadmap – what they want to do for the state and what they want to do for the people, what they want to do in the education sector or any sector so that the people will read the lines. So criticizing somebody without knowing details will not benefit anybody,” he said.
