Shillong, April 25: “This is for Meghalaya—for its people, its stories, and its spirit. Your support of local cinema is what inspires us to dream, to take risks, and to keep telling stories that matter. This award is yours too,” said renowned filmmaker from Meghalaya, Pradip Kurbah, after winning Best Film and Best Director at the prestigious 47th Moscow International Film Festival for his latest work, “Ha Lyngkha Bneng”.
The double win marks a significant moment for Indian and regional cinema, bringing global attention to the vibrant storytelling emerging from Northeast India.

Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) is one of the oldest world film forums (the second after the Venice Film Festival). The Moscow International Film Festival has been leading its history since 1935. Then the chairman of the jury was Sergey Eisenstein, and the film Chapaev opened the first festival. However, in subsequent years the festival was not held regularly. Therefore, the Moscow International Film Festival has officially been counted down since 1959, when it was renewed and turned into a regular event.
The 47th MIFF was held to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between nations and to develop further cooperation among filmmakers of the world.
Taking to social media to share his joy, Kurbah wrote, “I’m overwhelmed, humbled, and filled with gratitude. ‘Ha Lyngkha Bneng’ has just won Best Film and Best Director… To say this is a dream come true would still fall short of what I feel right now.”

Expressing heartfelt thanks to the festival jury and programmers, Kurbah noted how this international recognition has brought a story from the hills of Meghalaya to the global stage. “Your recognition has brought our story from the hills of Meghalaya to the world,” he said.
Kurbah dedicated the award to his entire team—actors, technicians, and crew members—calling them the “heartbeat of Ha Lyngkha Bneng.” He also extended gratitude to everyone who supported him with messages, prayers, and goodwill.
