A film rooted in the Khasi Hills and spoken in the Khasi language carried Meghalaya to the international stage as Pradip Kurbah’s acclaimed feature Ha Lyngkha Bneng – The Elysian Field premiered at Sri Lanka’s Jaffna International Cinema Festival, opening the festival’s 11th edition on December 30.
Ha Lyngkha Bneng – The Elysian Field, the latest Khasi-language film by award-winning filmmaker Pradip Kurbah, was screened in Shillong on Friday drawing attention to Meghalaya’s growing presence on the global independent cinema map.
Acclaimed Khasi filmmaker Pradip Kurbah is representing Meghalaya at the prestigious Asian Project Market (APM) 2025, held alongside the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea. His project, Moon, has been selected as one of 30 in-development films from across 15 countries, chosen from a record-breaking 455 submissions this year.
"This is for Meghalaya—for its people, its stories, and its spirit. Your support of local cinema is what inspires us to dream, to take risks, and to keep telling stories that matter. This award is yours too," said renowned filmmaker from Meghalaya, Pradip Kurbah, after winning Best Film and Best Director at the prestigious 47th Moscow International Film Festival for his latest work, "Ha Lyngkha Bneng".
The Commissioner & Secretary encouraged filmmakers to unite under one association to streamline and gave access to government schemes and initiatives provided from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry and other Agencies.
