Shillong, June 30: Meghalaya has upped its ante to meet the challenge of the impending third wave of Covid-19, which is suspected to target the age group of under 18 years and children. With the work to improve its Covid-19 infrastructure on war footing, a prefab structure for COVID hospital at Lawmali is expected to be completed within 3 months.
Health Minister A.L. Hek informed this on Wednesday after inspecting the site. He said the prefab structure is set up as part of the government’s preparation for the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The 100-bedded COVID hospital will also have a pediatric ward for catering to the children.
He informed that earlier there was some resentment expressed by the local Dorbar Shnong. “However, today we have met and made them understand that the prefab structure is urgently required,” Hek said.
Meanwhile, the health minister was also one of the recipients of the COVID-19 awards presented by the Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhavan. The function was organized by the Rotary Club, Shillong.
Hek said the award was presented as a mark of recognizing the services rendered during the ongoing COVID pandemic.
He said the other recipients of the award include Secretary Matsiewdor War Nongbri, DHS (MI) Dr Aman War, Ri Bhoi DC RM Kurbah and East Khasi Hills DC Isawanda Laloo.
