Tura, April 14: Preparations have been put in place across all five districts of Garo Hills where counting of votes will commence on Thursday morning to decide the fate of the candidates who have contested the GHADC elections.

Counting will commence at 8 AM with the postal ballots being counted first.

“Thirty minutes after counting of postal ballots votes in the EVMs will be counted,” said Returning Officer Ram Singh while speaking to Hub News on Wednesday evening.

West Garo Hills has 13 MDC constituencies and counting preparations have been set up at 13 different halls at the SMELC complex in Dakopgre.

Tura constituency will consist of six rounds of counting, said Returning Officer Ram Singh.
There are seven aspirants for the Tura MDC seat, namely Congress’ Kunal Ch Momin, NPP Semford B Sangma, Bernard Marak of the BJP, Pilne A Sangma of the UDP, Independents Grithalson Arengh, Mathew Ch Momin and Chris Kabul A Sangma.

Meanwhile, political parties and their leaders have begun arriving in the Garo Hills region in anticipation of the results.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is due to arrive in Tura on Wednesday night itself.

All three major parties- Congress, NPP and BJP are anticipating victory on counting day after a major campaign that witnessed rallies and public meetings witnessed by record crowds for an election that previously was known to be a low-key affair.
