Shillong, Dec 19: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong has asked the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) to consider having unconditional peace talks with the government.
“I personally and on behalf of the government urge them (HNLC) to come back for peace talks,” Tynsong said on Tuesday.
“Since in its letter (to the government), they (outfit) have welcomed and agreed to discuss across the table unconditionally, we also want them to come back for having unconditional talks. Even if we have to do it five or ten times, we are ready for discussion,” he assured.
Tynsong said that it was unfortunate that the first round of peace talks ended just like that (following the outfit’s decision to pull out of the tripartite peace talks with the government).
“However, let me reiterate that the door for dialogue is still open and both the state as well as the central government are ready to hold talks (without any conditions). I am confident that all the parties will be able to come to an understanding through such dialogues,” he added.
Asked, Tynsong said, “As of now, the state government is waiting (for the response from the outfit).”
He further added that despite the recent decision to extend the ban against the HNLC as an unlawful organization, the Centre is still interested to have peace dialogues with the outfit.
“Even though they extend the ban, at the same time the government of India also says come for dialogue and discussion we are still open for it,” the deputy CM stated.
