An overseer working in the PWD department and posted in Adokgre, under Kharkutta circle of North Garo Hills, was left injured when a group of men entered his quarter and beat him up along with two girls in a case of moral policing.
Three men involved in the attack are now in police custody.
According to police and a FIR lodged by the victim Rothin N Marak, overseer SDO, a group of men forced themselves into his Adokgre government quarter on Thursday night and attacked him and two girls inside.
The men charged the overseer with having indecent liaisons with the women.
But the overseer in his police complaint said that one of the girls was his younger cousin sister and the other was her friend who accompanied her to Adokgre.
“They attacked him as well as the two girls and took away his money and a motorcycle. We have arrested three of the main culprits and are on the lookout for more,” said Abraham T Sangma, SP of North Garo Hills.
The three men arrested have been identified as Phantom O. Sangma (27 years), Churik A. Momin (25) and Azariah A. Momin (21). They were all arrested inside Adokgre itself during a search operation on Friday night. Criminal cases including illegal entry, assault and outraging the modesty of women have been slapped on the men for the incident.
Police also mentioned that the arrested men were involved in obstructing health workers who went to Adokgre region to conduct vaccination camps for Covid, recently.
According to North Garo Hills police, the three men were also the main culprits who created obstacles to magistrates and health teams during the ongoing vaccination drive against Covid-19 in the area.
