Rain and thunderstorms Predicted for Assam-Meghalaya and the rest of Northeast

Guwahati, April 26: The hot and humid conditions that have gripped many districts in Assam-Meghalaya and other northeastern states over the past few days are expected to get a much-needed respite this week.

According to the latest weather forecast from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, a wet spell will likely bring widespread rainfall and a dip in temperatures across the region starting Friday. However, the rainfall will also be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty wind activity, which may cause disruptions. Nonetheless, many in the Northeast will welcome the cooler, wetter weather after the recent stretch of hot and sultry conditions.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati has released its weather forecast for the next five days for Assam and the adjoining northeastern states. According to the forecast, light to moderate rainfall is expected across the region, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds in some areas.

For Day 1 (April 26th), light to moderate rain is likely at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya and at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are also predicted for the region, with heavy rain likely at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.

Over the next few days, the rainfall intensity is expected to increase. On Day 2 (April 27th), light to moderate rain is forecast at many places in Arunachal Pradesh and a few places in the other northeastern states. Thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

The wet spell is predicted to intensify further on Day 3 (April 28th), with light to moderate rain expected at most places in Arunachal Pradesh and other states. Thunderstorms and gusty winds with 50-60 kmph speeds are very likely at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Similar conditions are forecast for Day 4 (April 29th) and Day 5 (April 30th), with widespread light to moderate rain across the region. During this period, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated heavy rain are also warned for parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.

The meteorological department has advised residents to stay updated on the latest weather information and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall events.

Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are likely over the entire region from April 26th to April 30th. On April 27th, thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are predicted at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

The wind speeds are expected to intensify on April 28th, with gusts of 50-60 kmph very likely at isolated areas in these states. The winds may decrease slightly on April 29th to 30-40 kmph. Still, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya during this period. Thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 40-50 mph are also forecast on April 30th for parts of Assam, Meghalaya and the other northeastern states.
