Must read

Shillong, Jan 24: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday inaugurated the newly upgraded First Referral Unit (FRU) at the Ranikor CHC in South West Khasi Hills in presence of Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

The upgraded facilities include a fully functional operation theatre, a labor room, and an advanced equipment for various medical investigations. The infrastructure aims to provide better healthcare services to residents in rural areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “This is a proud moment for the state as we take another step towards improving healthcare accessibility in rural areas. Many people have had to travel five to six hours for essential medical services, and this facility will help bridge that gap and potentially save lives.”

He expressed his gratitude to the health department and frontline healthcare workers. “I commend the dedication and sacrifice of our doctors and nurses, who serve tirelessly in these challenging locations. Their commitment to the people of the state is truly admirable.”

The intervention is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services and ensure equitable access to healthcare services across Meghalaya.
