Jowai, Nov 30: The Raij Chyrmang under Elaka Jowai on Thursday performed the ancient ceremony known as ‘Ku Tyngkong’ to permanently recognise the Pator of Elaka Jowai, Raymond Nartiang, at the Yung Langdoh, at Chyrmang Village.
This ceremony is performed once in the lifetime of the Pator.
The Pator is a designation subordinate to the Dolloi in various Elakas of the Jaiñtia Hills especially the Niamtre Faithfuls and his duty is not only religious but also to act as a mediator if there are any differences between the Raijs under the Elaka.
Early morning, the Dolloi of Elaka Jowai, Puramon Kynjing, the Pator, office bearers of the Seiñraij Jowai set-off towards the Myntdu river where the Pator is carried across the river before proceeding towards the Yung Langdoh at Chyrmang Village.
On reaching the Yung Langdoh, prayers were offered and pledges were exchanged between the Langdoh of Raij Chyrmang and the Pator to uphold and protect the borders of the Raij Chyrmang and to respect the inhabitants of the Raij and vice versa.
