Shillong, Feb 25: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Shillong, kicked off Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2025 on Monday at Hotel Vivanta, Shillong under the theme “Financial Literacy—Women’s Prosperity”.

The event was graced by Idashisha Nongrang, DGP, Meghalaya Police as the Chief Guest, alongside Ramakrishna Chitturi, Additional Secretary, Finance Department and senior officials from NABARD, Meghalaya Cooperative Bank, SBI, and other banks.

RBI Shillong’s General Manager, Olden Nongpluh, emphasised that financial literacy goes beyond managing money—it empowers individuals to take control of their financial futures. He stressed that empowering women financially creates a positive ripple effect on families, communities, and the economy.

In her keynote address, Idashisha Nongrang applauded RBI’s efforts and underscored that educating women in finance empowers entire generations. She encouraged banks to enhance financial awareness in rural areas and improve the implementation of various financial schemes.

Ramakrishna Chitturi highlighted the need for comprehensive financial services, including insurance and pension products, and praised Self Help Groups for uplifting women through community-based lending. He urged banks to strengthen their outreach to rural populations.

To engage the younger generation, RBI Shillong hosted competitions like poster-making and short video contests, with winners being felicitated at the event.

Throughout the week, the RBI Shillong in collaboration with local banks, will conduct awareness programs across all blocks of Meghalaya, equipping women with essential financial knowledge and tools to secure their future.
