SHILLONG, APR 8: Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin on Monday asked the people to reject the opposition Congress for its commitment to bring a law to recognize civil unions between couples belonging to the LGBTQIA, if voted to power.
Addressing an election campaign at Iawmusiang, Jowai, Kharjahrin said, “We do not agree with the manifesto of the Congress, which seeks to bring a law to recognize such civil unions (by couples belonging to the LGBTQIA) if they are voted to power.”
He said that the Congress’ manifesto is a clear indication that they don’t respect religious sentiments of the people.
“Therefore, one vote to Congress will be a support to this commitment, which according to us is highly unacceptable,” Kharjahrin said.
LGBTQIA stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual.
