Tura, Aug 31: The residents of Chokpot’s Khakkija village voiced their grievances on Wednesday against the deplorable condition of a vital road and the persistent delay in the completion of the Khakkija to Chokpot Public Works Department (PWD) road project.
This road, situated under the jurisdiction of the Chokpot constituency in South Garo Hills district, has become a major headache for the locals.
The road is an important throughfare for the local community, but its current awful condition, due to neglect and abandoned work, has inflicted severe hardships on both school children and area residents who rely on it daily to fulfill their basic needs.
Expressing their discontent, the villagers have taken it upon themselves to undertake the repair and maintenance of this road, which they do annually.
However, the concerned authority continues to ignore this important road.
The local residents have appealed to the local MLA, Sengbirth R Marak, as well as the Public Works Department (PWD) officials and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating within the Chokpot area to urgently repair and renovate the road to ease the sufferings of the local community.
