Residents of Baikam village seek integration into Meghalaya

Shillong, July 15: Pnar (Jaintia) people residing in Baikam village, which is currently under the jurisdiction of Assam, have expressed their desire to be in Meghalaya.

This was conveyed during a meeting held at Holy Cross Secondary School in Umkiang, East Jaintia Hills District, to address issues concerning the Meghalaya-Assam border, specifically the 12-Ratacheera sector.

The meeting was attended Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and the Chief Executive Member of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) from Meghalaya and representatives from Assam led by Nelamani Sen Dekka.

During the hour-long discussion, the focus was on the matter concerning Baikam village, which is currently under the jurisdiction of the Assam State Government.

It is important to note that the inhabitants of this village belong to the Pnar Community and express their desire to be a part of Meghalaya.

Efforts were made to address the concerns raised by the Pnar community and explore potential solutions to facilitate their integration into Meghalaya.
