Shillong, Oct 22: Continuing his disagreement over the role of the Judiciary, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday disagreed that his comment invited criticism, instead arguing that his comments have brought appreciation.
“It has not brought criticism but a lot of appreciation because I have stated something which is already there. It’s nothing new. And moreover, as a Law Minister, I have to ensure that the Justice delivery mechanism in our country has to be robust. When we delay delivery of justice to the common man, then the purpose itself is defeated,” he said.
Recently, the Union Law Minister had stated that judges spend half their time in deciding who to appoint as judges instead of delivering justice, and also termed the collegium system as “opaque” or non-transparent, which has sparked a huge controversy.
Rijiju also stated that he has defined the roles of judiciary, executive and legislature and that his point is very limited, that they all are committed to work for the nation.
“And our roles are defined and we need not get into somebody’s territory and get into unnecessary diversion of the rules. Rather than that one must concentrate and focus and remain within the realm of the responsibilities defined by the Constitution of India,” stated Rijiju.
