Guwahati, Dec 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said Rohingyas are using Assam as transit route while travelling to Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Kerela.
Talking to media persons in Guwahati, Assam CM said, “Assam police has detected 137 Rohingyas and 304 Bangladeshi entering illegally in Assam and Tripura. They enter via Tripura, use Assam as transit route but they settle in Delhi, Kerela, Hyderabad, Chennai and Jammu and Kashmir.”
“We are doing a national obligation by detecting Rohingyas. MHA has taken up the matter and NIA is handling the case,” CM Sarma stated.
He further added, “The National Crime Records Bureau in its latest report has highlighted the crime rate for all states in which Assam has witnessed a drastic drop in crime rate by 50 per cent since 2021.”
He also informed that a significant drop has also been witnessed in crime rates against women and children, reflecting the state government’s commitment to tackle crime through several reforms in policing.
