Goalpara, Apr 21: The civil organisations from Assam and Meghalaya today agreed to seek justice and wait for the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the gruesome Rongmil murder case.
On April 17, three charred bodies of youth from Assam’s Goalpara were recovered from Rongmil in East Garo Hills, which was partially buried and their vehicles burnt down.
The incident has led to widespread condemnation from different quarters. The mischief mongers has been trying to propagate rumours and has been circulating statements, messages, which are communal in nature.
Towards this end, the civil bodies from Goalpara namely, the All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) and organisations from Garo Hills, including GSU, ADE, FKJGP, AAYF and others on Sunday held meeting at Dudhnoi in Goalpara district.
The organisation has appealed the people to refrain from circulating rumours, videos, statements, and comments related to the incident. “Such actions can only exacerbate tensions and hinder the search for truth and justice”, said AAMU president in a statement.
Terming the incident as ‘deeply regrettable’, the organisation said, “The killing of any human being is a grave offense that must be unequivocally condemned. It is important to note that the victims were individuals with pending criminal cases against them in Assam. However, irrespective of their past actions, the loss of their lives is still a tragedy that warrants condemnation”.
They stated that the ethnicity or community affiliation of the perpetrators should not overshadow the pursuit of justice. “Let us allow the law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law”, the statement read.
They also urged the people to resist to turn the tragedy into a communal issue. “Blocking roads or inciting communal tensions will only hinder the investigative process and delay justice. Let us remain united in our call for a fair and impartial investigation”, the statement further said.
They further urged the people to restraint and allow the investigation to proceed. “Let us not rush to judgment or spread misinformation. Instead, let us come together as a community to support the pursuit of truth and justice for all involved”.
