Shillong, Sept 17: Meghalaya government has sanctioned Rs 109 crore for improving over 191 schools across the state during the current financial year.
This was informed by the Minister in-charge Education, Lahkmen Rymbui while replying to a query by Congress legislator from Mawsynram Himalaya Shangpliang in Assembly on Friday.
Rymbui said the present government is the first government which has looked into the government schools all over the state.
“The Rs 109 crore sanctioned from the state scheme will ensure these schools are not only provided with buildings but with also basic furnitures…we will try to improve,” he said.
On the concern expressed by Shangpliang over delay to repair the government schools which are in dilapidated conditions, Rymbui said the government has sanctioned Rs 8.20 lakh for additional classroom for Phlangwanroy government LP school and Rs 10 lakh for Lalpani LP government.
He also informed that two government LP schools under Mawsynram block have been approved from 2018 till date for construction of new school building under the state scheme.
