Shillong, Sept 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said the government is examining the creation of new districts and sub-divisions in the state.
Replying to a query by Congress legislator from Umroi, George B Lyngdoh in the Assembly, Conrad said as of now, government has decided in principle to upgrade Mairang sub-division into a district.
He also informed that eight proposals for creation of new districts and new sub-divisions are under examination of the government.
Parameters for creating new district & sub division
The Chief Minister said the parameters generally considered for new districts and sub-divisions are extent of the area, population, distance from the existing district/sub division headquarter, status of education & health services, general economic condition, public convenience, communication and availability of funds.
When Lyngdoh sought for a comparative analysis on the proposals to know whether demands are geniune or not, Conrad said details can be given but decision may be otherwise.
