Rs 72.78 cr spent by Health department for development of existing clinics and hospitals: James

Shillong, Mar 15: Health and Family Welfare Minister James K Sangma on Tuesday said Rs 158.56 crore is the budget earmarked by the department for development of the existing and new PHCs, CHCs, district hospitals and health sub-centres during 2022-23.

A total of Rs 72.78 crore has been spent by the department for development of existing PHCs, CHCs, district hospitals and health sub-centres during 2021-22, Sangma said while replying to a query raised by Mawryngkneng MLA Pyniaid Sing Syiem in the Assembly.

The minister also informed that a total of 336 proposals have been received from members and different people for setting up and upgradation of sub-centres, PHCs and CHCs.

“We will try as a government many of these proposals be taken up (but) it does not mean all 336 will see light of day  but its our endeavor to try to the maximum,” he assured.

Sangma said that strengthening of the health engineering wing is going on. “We are committed to  make the health engineering wing robust. We have already appointed 11 new engineers to further strengthen it,” he added.

On the recruitment of staff nurses, the minister said the once the process of appointment of 202 staff nurses is completed, the nurses appointed under 3F as stop-gap arrangement will be terminated.
