Itanagar, Jan 25: The ongoing wildfire near the Tawang Chu River below Sagkyur village in Arunachal Pradesh continues to rage uncontrollably, with steep mountain terrain and dense, inaccessible forests posing significant challenges to firefighting efforts.
A massive wildfire erupted in the river belt of Tawang Chu River below Sagkyur village, under Pamakhar Circle of Lungla Sub-Division, Arunachal Pradesh.
Despite a coordinated response by the Lungla administration, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indian Army personnel from the Tawang Brigade, local police, and villagers, containment efforts are hampered by the region’s geographical complexity.
The wildfire, which threatens the rich biodiversity of the Tawang district, is difficult to approach due to steep slopes, thick vegetation, and a lack of access routes. Experts say these natural barriers not only slow firefighting operations but also make it harder to assess the full extent of the damage.

Agencies remain on high alert to prevent further spread, but the incident highlights the need for advanced firefighting strategies and equipment tailored to Arunachal Pradesh’s rugged landscape.
Tawang Chu (Tawang river) is the prime river of the Tawang district. Two south flowing rivers from Tibet join this river within the district. From there, this river flows into Bhutan and Assam.
fficers from the Indian Army, State Police, SSB, BRO, and the Forest Department are actively monitoring the situation and working to bring the fire under control.
