SHILLONG, Sept 15: Gambegre legislator Saleng A Sangma on Thursday alleged that the site of under-construction Tura Medical College has become a safe haven for militant outfits.

Raising a supplementary query in the Assembly, he said few days back he received a report that around 70 unknown militants/outfits are at the construction site of Tura Medical College.

He also sought to know whether the government has any kind of intelligence inputs on this as the project has being left unmonitored, and it will become a safe haven for anti-social elements.

He however assured that the Home (Police) department will be asked to enquire into the matter.

“We have noted it down and will pass the same to the Home (Police) department for them to do due diligence and enquire into this matter,” James said.

The minister further assured that it is the sincere endeavor of the government to complete the project for starting the Tura Medical College.

“Pursuant to that, we have set up a committee headed by the secretary of health who is monitoring the progress of the construction and status of the project,” he said.
