Shillong, May 6: The National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Sohiong constituency and former cabinet minister, Samlin Malngiang, on Saturday claimed that around 8 elected representatives of the United Democratic Party (UDP) will soon merge with the NPP.
Malngiang made the claim on the day when two MLAs of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) officially merged with the NPP. He also stated that many leaders of UDP in Sohiong constituency have willing come over to join the NPP ahead of the Sohiong polls.
However, UDP leader Allantry F. Dkhar has rubbished the claims, calling them to be baseless and untrue.
Meanwhile, the former cabinet minister in his speech reminded the people of Sohiong that during his 5 years as an MLA, he has brought about Rs. 130 crores of developmental projects in the constituency and it was his initiative that the road projects from Lawmei to Umglyngka of about Rs. 22 crores along with Rs. 77crores bridge connecting the two has been constructed.
On the other hand, responding to a query, NPP national vice president and Dy CM Prestone Tynsong said the UDP is still part and parcel of the NPP-led MDA-II government, however the future is uncertain.
“Right now, yes, they are continuing with us. But I don’t know about the future, let us see how it goes, then that time only we all can tell you,” he said.
The Deputy CM, however, said he expects more leaders to join NPP. “The doors of the NPP are always open, why not others follow suit (like PDF),” he added.
