Shillong, July 16: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has donated Rs. 1 lakh to marathon runner Kmoin Wahlang to support her participation in an upcoming marathon competition in Australia. Shullai met Wahlang on Tuesday to felicitate her ahead of her representation of the country in the championship.
In addition to the donation, Shullai also gifted Rs. 30,000 to coach Benningstar Lyngkhoi in gratitude for his efforts in bringing many laurels to the state.
Kmoin Wahlang, the 76-year-old runner will be part of the Indian athletics team for the 13th Pan Pacific Masters Games 2024, which will take place in Gold Coast, Australia in November.
Wahlang has been running full marathons and other distances in Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, besides races in Meghalaya.
It may be mentioned that the State government has given the assurance to bear all the participation expenses for the 76-year-old marathon runner in Australia. She will be leaving for Australia on October 29.
