Tura, Aug 25: The Tura District Cricket Association (TDCA) on Friday conducted trails for the Under 23 Men’s and Women’s cricket team as well as for senior Men’s & Women’s team at Alotgre Cricket Stadium in Tura, West Garo Hills.
Over 50 young men turned up for the trails, whereas only 4 female players turned up for the women’s category.
Players mostly came from Tura and other parts of West & South West Garo Hills Districts.
Coaches and selectors from TDCA and MCA were present on the grounds to oversee the proceedings and identify promising talents among the hopefuls.
Speaking to Hub News, Dhruba Sangma, the coach for TDCA, said, “The players who will be selected in the trails will be qualified for other trials and, if performed well, can play for the state as well as well as country”
He also added “Ajima Sangma, India C player from Tura, has proved that players from smaller towns can also play for India in international Cricket.”
The panel of selectors included:
Lampu Sangma, MCA Selector
Salmitmat Marak, Video Analyst, MCA
Dhruba Sangma, Coach TDCA
Sengam Momin, Coach TDCA
Moisten Marak coach TDCA
Jaheer D Shira, Member TDCA
Chesrang Marak, Member TDCA
Meanwhile, the low participation of women in the trials pointed towards a potential gap in awareness campaigns for promoting the prospects of women’s cricket, both at the state and district levels.
