Silchar, Mar 28: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Section 144 has been imposed in Assam’s Cachar district, with the ongoing nomination filing process of the candidates.
The decision to impose Section 144 comes amidst concerns over potential election-related violence and malpractices.
District Magistrate of Cachar District, Rohan Kumar Jha, has issued strict prohibitions under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code, by specifically targeting activities near the office of the returning officer or assistant returning officer. These include barring assembly of more than five people within 100 meters of these offices, as well as limiting vehicle entry to two within the same area.
Silchar constituency, where these measures are implemented, is scheduled to vote in the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls on April 26th.
