Tura, July 14: A one-day seminar on the preservation of Garo customs and traditions was held on Saturday at the Pastoral Centre in Walbakgre.
Organised by the Tura Chambugong Mahari Association (TCMA), the seminar aimed to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the Garo tribe. It was attended by over 100 people.
The program opened with an introductory speech by TCMA President Bensing Ch. Marak, followed by an opening prayer from Pastor Johnstellon Ch. Marak. Key speakers at the seminar included Wienson Ch. Marak, Former Executive Member of the GHADC and Adviser to the AGHCMA; Tejipson Ch. Marak, Secretary of Arts & Culture at AGCCA; and Wilsan Ch. Marak from Lasker Dengnakpara Village Court.
Speakers focused on raising awareness among the younger generation about the significance of Garo traditional culture. They stressed on the urgent need to preserve these customs in the face of globalisation, to protect the unique identity of the Garo tribe.
The seminar stressed on the collective commitment to celebrating and upholding the Garo people’s rich cultural heritage, ensuring its continuity despite contemporary challenges.
