Guwahati, April 18: The NDA alliance candidate and senior AGP leader Phani Bhusan Chowdhury filed his nomination papers from Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency in Assam’s Barpeta district on Thursday.
Chowdhury was accompanied by AGP president Atul Bora, state cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Rajya Sabha MP Biren Baishya.
Prior to filing the nomination, a public meeting was held at the Barpeta municipal ground, setting the stage for Chowdhury’s nomination filing.
Speaking to Hub News , AGP President Atul Bora said, “today’s massive rally proves that our candidate Phani Bhusan Chowdhury’s victory in Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency is 100 per cent certain”.
Assam’s cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Baruah emphasized the significance of representing the Khilonjiya community, affirming, “in Barpeta this time we will be able to keep alive the existence of the Khilonjiya people,” Baruah stated. Chowdhury is the MLA from Bongaigaon and longest serving MLA in the state.
Voting in Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar (ST) constituencies will take place in the third phase on May 7.
Barpeta Lok Sabha seat comprises 10 assembly seats including Bongaigaon, Abhayapurinorth, Abhayapurisouth, Patacharkuchi, Barpeta, Jania, Baghbar, Sarukhetri, Chenga and Dharmapu.
