Dibrugarh, Dec 27: Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Rajen Gohain has sounded an alarm, cautioning the party’s central leadership about the potential fallout of neglecting senior leaders and workers in Assam. He warned that the BJP in the state is teetering on the edge of internal collapse and could face dire consequences if organizational reforms are not undertaken promptly.
Gohain’s remarks came during a closed-door meeting with senior BJP workers in Milan Nagar, Dibrugarh, where he addressed widespread dissatisfaction within the party ranks. He expressed concern over the state leadership’s approach, emphasizing the need to prioritize and respect veteran party workers to prevent defections to rival parties, particularly the Congress.
“Many senior workers feel alienated. They’ve shared their grievances with me and are seriously considering joining other parties, especially the Congress. I am counselling them against making hasty decisions, but their frustrations run deep and must be acknowledged,” Gohain stated.
He highlighted the broader implications of this discontent, warning that if the Congress were to regain power in Assam, it would be a setback not just for the BJP but also for the state’s development. “The BJP cannot afford to lose its senior workers, who are the backbone of the party’s success in Assam. If the central leadership fails to act, the repercussions will be severe,” he added.
Gohain’s meeting in Dibrugarh is part of his ongoing efforts to bridge the widening gaps within the party and advocate for urgent organizational reforms. His statewide discussions have underscored the pressing need for unity and inclusivity to ensure the BJP’s continued strength and relevance in Assam’s political landscape.
