Tura, Aug 17: Several hospitals in the Garo Hills region on Saturday suspended the Out Patient Department (OPD) services in solidarity with the nationwide protest called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
IMA called the protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The medical professionals have demanded stringent action against the perpetrator of the crime.
Due to the protest, OPD services remained suspended for the day at Tura Civil hospital, Tura Christian Hospital, Holy Cross hospital, Ampati Civil Hospital, Resubelpara Community Health Centre and District Maternity & Child Hospital, Tura.
Apart from the Garo Hills region several hospitals in the state capital also suspended their respective OPDs, which included NEIGRIHMS, Shillong Civil hospital and others.
IMA and other associations of the medical fraternity have also demanded enactment of legislations, which would protect health care workers in their workplaces.
