Dibrugarh, Aug 5: A heavy downpour in Dibrugarh town on Monday morning caused severe flooding across all 22 wards. Streets and low-lying areas were submerged, forcing several schools to suspend classes as water entered premises and classrooms.
Flash floods inundated Mancotta Road, AT Road, and other areas including Gangapara, Mahalaya Road, Cole Road, and Jail Road. This marks the second waterlogging incident since June 27, when Dibrugarh experienced nine consecutive days of flooding. The Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) drain, clogged and shallow due to mass encroachment, has been identified as the main culprit, failing to effectively drain rainwater.
Local residents expressed frustration and concern over the recurring flooding. Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation officials stated they are working to address the drainage issues and clear the clogged drains.
