Shillong, Nov 1: Ahead of the All Souls’ Day, which will be observed on November 2, the city of Shillong is decked with the colours and fragrances of fresh flowers as families prepare to honour and remember their departed loved ones.
This time of year is a busy season for flower sellers, especially in the Laitumkhrah area, where local flower vendors are seeing a heartwarming rise in demand for flowers, wreaths, and other arrangements meant to adorn gravesites.
Apart from fresh flowers, wreaths and candles are also being quickly picked up by families who will use them in ceremonies for their loved ones.
Many spend hours carefully selecting flowers, wreaths, and candles that best reflect the personalities of those they are honouring, turning the occasion into one not just of remembrance, but of celebration.
As Shillong prepares for All Souls’ Day, the demand for flowers serves as a reminder of the city’s strong communal spirit and the love that binds families, even in the quiet moments of remembrance.
