Shillong Customs destroys drugs worth Rs 8.5 Cr

SHILLONG, JAN 22: In a significant move to demonstrate the zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and as part of the Drug Disposal Campaign of the CBIC (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs), the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive), Shillong destroyed drugs valued at Rs 8.5 Crore which were seized under the NDPS Act, 1985.

The drug destruction drive was carried out on 22.1.2025 by incineration in the presence of the Drug Disposal Committee headed by Spencer M Mylliem, Joint Commissioner, Customs NER and consisting of officers of Customs and DRI.

This was conducted in a secure and environmentally responsible manner, ensuring that these harmful substances are permanently removed from circulation.

The present destruction is being undertaken by Customs in an effort to reinforce its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking with a view towards enhancing public welfare and the nation’s well-being.
