Shillong witnesses air display by IAF’s SKAT, fighter jets to commemorate 50 years of India’s victory in 1971 Indo-Pak War

Shillong, Dec 4: As part of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh to commemorate the 50 years of India’s victory in 1971 Indo-Pak War, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday organized an air display at Umiam Lakeview.

The highlight of the programme, organised by the Eastern Air Command, was the air display by the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) of IAF after a flypast by IAF Fighter jets and Helicopters.

The aerial ballet by the IAF machines in the blue skies of Shillong was witnessed by the public from various vantage points around Umiam Lake.

Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik was presented in the event as the chief guest,  along with Meghalaya  Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and also attended by air veterans, Civil dignitaries, serving officials and the local populace.

Flight Lieutenant Ridhima Gurung of the SKAT team said this is the first time the team has come to Meghalaya in its 25 years of existence. SKAT was made in 1996.

The aim of the SKAT was also to motivate the youths to join the armed forces.

“It was a beautiful opportunity to be here at Umiam Lake and Meghalaya known as abode of clouds, where the clouds live, so it was a wonderful experience for the team to be here,” said Flight Lieutenant Ridhima Gurung.
