Guwahati, Sep 10: What is going on in Assam police? After a sensational corruption case in Assam’s Bajali district, where ten cops, including the superintendent of police, were arrested, now a police constable stationed in Dhubri district has been arrested for stealing onions during night duty.
In a shameful incident, the police constable, identified as 50-year-old Shivesh Sen Gupta, was on night patrol duty when CCTV footage showed him stealing a sack of onions from a parked vehicle at a godown in ward 5 of Dhubri town.
But before the the police received the CCTV footage, a clip was shared on social media, which grabbed the attention of the citizens.
Mubarak Hussain and Mynal Haque, owners of the godown, submitted the CCTV video footage to the police.
It has been learned that the police constable was arrested and taken to Dhubri Sadar police station for interrogation. He is likely to face departmental action.
The police constable has been arrested on charges of theft and defaming the police department.
Interestingly, the police constable has no idea about the CCTV camera installed in the godown. The theft took place around 3 a.m., when there was no one in the godown.
